Tonacombe, Cornwall

Tonacombe is a Tudor manor house near Morwenstow, Cornwall. The present house likely dates from the early 16th century, around the time of the marriage between Thomasin Jourden of Tonacombe and John Kempthorne. It remained in the Kempthorne family for many years before being transferred to the Waddon family in the mid-17th century through marriage. It later passed to the Martyn family in the late 18th century, also by marriage. The manor has undergone several alterations over the centuries, with an early 16th-century core, 18th-century renovations, and some 20th-century changes. The house is noted for its outstanding condition, preserving its open hall and other original mediæval elements. In 1933, the manor was featured in the British magazine Country Life. It is within the council area of Cornwall.
