Tollymore Park, Down
Tollymore Park is a historic estate, situated on the River Shimna near Bryansford in County Down. Tollymore Park House was first constructed around 1730 by James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Clanbrassill, whose grandmother was heiress of the Magennis family, original owners of the estate. The house was subsequently extended on several occasions. Although the house was demolished in 1952, the demesne buildings and their folly embellishments, some the work of Thomas Wright, remain. The Clanbrassill Barn (1789), a two-storey gabled Gothic barn, is especially noteworthy. The estate became Tollymore Forest Park in 1955. The estate is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
