Tirkane Sweat House, Londonderry

Tirkane Sweat House is a small sweathouse built into the side of a secluded leafy valley in the townland of Tirkane, County Londonderry. Rectangular in plan, it is stone-built with a paved floor and lintelled roof. A small chimney hole allowed smoke to escape. The stone structure is covered with turf. An 18th-century date has been suggested. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Mid Ulster.
