Tidworth, Wiltshire / Hampshire
Tidworth is a garrison town partly in Wiltshire and partly in Hampshire. As far back as the Domesday Book, the village of North Tidworth lay in Wiltshire and the village of South Tidworth in Hampshire. The hamlet of Hampshire Cross lay at the county border between the two villages. In the early 20th century, extensive military barracks were developed largely in South Tidworth but spreading across the county border into North Tidworth. Today North Tidworth, South Tidworth and Hampshire Cross, though retaining district identities, are thought of as part of the larger town of Tidworth. The town is within the council area of Wiltshire.
