Thornton, Lancashire
Thornton is a large village in Lancashire. It lies on the Fylde coastal plain to the east of Cleveleys with which it has become contiguous. Thornton remained a sparsely populated parish until the 19th century, with the village of Thornton being developed around the railway station opened in 1865. Marsh Mill, a large well-preserved windmill, was built in 1794. For local government purposes, from 1927-1974 it was part of the urban district of Thornton-Cleveleys, this name still sometimes being used to describe the conurbation of Thornton with Cleveleys. The town is within the council area of Wyre (Lancashire).
