Thornbury, Gloucestershire
Thornbury is a market town in Gloucestershire. The earliest reference is to 'Thornbyrig' from the 9th century. Thornbury received a town charter in 1252 and grew around its cattle market. Thornbury Castle is a Tudor country house, constructed from 1511 for Edward Stafford, 3rd Duke of Buckingham and renovated in 1824 by the Howard Family. The Church of St Mary the Virgin dates from the 12th century. The town is within the council area of South Gloucestershire.
