The Sanctuary, Wiltshire

The Sanctuary is the site of a prehistoric stone and timber circle, situated on Overton Hill to the south of Avebury, Wiltshire. It is connected to the Late Neolithic henge and stone circle at Avebury via the West Kennet Avenue of standing stones. William Stukeley drew the monument in 1723 but later described how the stones had been subsequently destroyed by local farmers. The location of the stones and timber posts have now been marked out with concrete markers. The monument is within the council area of Wiltshire.
Historic England Scheduled Monument 1014563.
