The Mount, Essex

The Mount is a Roman burial mound near South Ockendon Hall, Essex. It originally stood as one of three such barrows along the Mar Dyke river valley. The mound is oval in plan with a flat summit at a height of about 17ft. It has a maximum diameter of 165ft at the base where it is surrounded by a largely buried ditch, visible as a slight depression measuring up to 33ft in width. The monument is within the council area of Thurrock.
