The Market, Antrim
The Market is an urban area, lying on the east bank of the River Laggan in Belfast, County Antrim. It is within the townland of Town Parks, in the civil parish of Shankill. The area was developed in the 19th century as housing was built for those working in waterfront businesses such as factories, distilleries, abattoirs, and several markets including the famous St George’s Market. The area has seen major housing redevelopments since the 1970s, though it remains as an inner city working class community. The Market is within the council area of Belfast.
