The Kings Manor, Yorkshire
The Kings Manor is a historic house on Exhibition Square in York, Yorkshire. It lies outside the city walls, in the North Riding. King's Manor was built to house the abbots of St Mary's Abbey. The Abbot's house probably occupied the site since the 11th century, but the earliest remains date from the 15th century. When the abbey was dissolved in 1539, Henry VIII instructed that it be the seat of the Council of the North, a role it performed until 1641. It was the location of the Yorkshire School for the Blind between 1833-1958, after which it became part of the University of York. It is within the council area of York.
