The Charterhouse, Warwickshire
The Charterhouse (aka Charter House) is the remains of a mediæval monastic house, situated on the banks of the River Sherbourne in Coventry, Warwickshire. The priory of St Anne was founded around 1381 and dissolved around 1540. The remains include an early 15th-century sandstone range, the Prior's Lodging, with 16th-century additions. There are 15th- and 16th-century wall paintings, including important early Renaissance motifs. The Coach House and Mediæval Precinct Wall also survive. Following the Dissolution it became a family home and more recently has been used as a youth hostel, old men’s home and training venue. It is now in the care of the National Trust. It is within the council area of Coventry.
