The Castle, Buckinghamshire

The Castle is a mediæval moated enclosure near Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. The moat is square with rounded corners and has sides around 160ft long. It comprises a well-defined bank and outer ditchs, although the relative levels of the ditch indicate that it was never designed to hold water but functioned instead as a dry ditch. Excavations have suggested that it dates from the 12th century, possibly the site of an early manorial house or hunting lodge. It is within the council area of Buckinghamshire.
Historic England Scheduled Monument 1009539.
