Temple Ewell, Kent
Temple Ewell is a village in Kent. It is first mentioned in a charter of c.772 as 'Æwille'. The Knights Templar were granted the manor of Ewell in 1163 by the crown in recognition of their role in the Holy Land, and the word Temple became prefixed to the village name. The Templars founded a Preceptory in the village and built the Norman church of St Peter & St Paul c. 1170. It is within the council area of Dover (Kent).
