Teignmouth, Devon
Teignmouth is a seaside town and fishing port, lying on the north bank of the broad estuary of the River Teign in Devon. It was recorded as 'Tengemuða' in 1044. The port has operated since the 13th century. The town grew from a fishing port to a seaside resort in Georgian times, with further expansion after the opening of the South Devon Railway in 1846. The port still operates and the town remains a popular seaside holiday location. Den Crescent and its central Assembly Rooms were laid out in 1826 by Andrew Patey of Exeter. The Grand Pier was constructed between 1865-1867. The town is within the council area of Teignbridge (Devon).
