Tapton Castle, Derbyshire
Tapton Castle is a motte or castle mound at Tapton, Derbyshire. It comprises a roughly circular hemispherical mound with a base diameter of 120ft and a maximum height of about 6ft. The level top of the mound measures 65ft by 82ft and is interpreted as the site of a shell keep. In the late 17th century the site was incorporated into the grounds of Tapton House. It is believed to possibly date from the mid 13th century. It is within the council area of Chesterfield (Derbyshire).
