Tandragee, Armagh

Tandragee (aka Tanderagee) is a small town, situated on a hillside above the Cusher River in County Armagh. It is primarily within the townland of Ballymore, in the civil parish of Ballymore. Tandragee Castle, which overlooks the town, originated as a stronghold of the O'Hanlon Clan. During the Plantation it became the property of Sir Oliver St John, who rebuilt it. It was ruined during the Rebellion of 1641 and not rebuild until 1837, by George Montagu, 6th Duke of Manchester. Its grounds became home to the Tayto potato-crisp factory in 1956. There are churches of six denominations in the town. White's Mill was established by Thomas Henry White in 1841. The town is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
