Tameside CA, Cheshire / Lancashire

Tameside is a council area. It forms the unitary authority in a single-tier system of local government. The name refers to the River Tame. The council area lies in three historic counties: Lancashire, Cheshire and Yorkshire. Much of the council area lies west of the Tame in Lancashire, including Denton, Ashton-under-Lyne and Droylsden. A large part of the council area lies east of the Tame in Cheshire, including Dukinfield and Hyde. The town of Mossley is split between these two counties and also includes a small area of Yorkshire (Roughtown).
