Tadcaster, Yorkshire
Tadcaster is a market town in Yorkshire, in the West Riding. The town has been important since Roman times since, until 1978, it formed the lowest crossing point on the River Wharfe. A market has been held at Tadcaster since 1270. Tadcaster has long been associated with the brewing industry due to the quality of the local water. Samuel Smith's Old Brewery is the oldest brewery in Yorkshire. The town's oldest building is The Ark, built in the late 15th century. The town is within the council area of North Yorkshire.
