Syningthwaite Priory, Yorkshire

Syningthwaite Priory is a former priory and a historic house near Bilton in Ainsty, Yorkshire, in the West Riding. The Cistercian convent of St Mary was founded around 1150–1160 by Bertram Haget and suppressed in 1535. At the Dissolution there were nine nuns, the prioress, eight servants and other labourers. The priory site is enclosed by a moat and includes a Chapel Garth. Part of the abbey, possibly the refectory, was built into Syningthwaite Priory Farmhouse. The monument is within the council area of North Yorkshire.
