Suffolk, Antrim

Suffolk is a suburban area in the south-west of Belfast, County Antrim. It lies within the townlands of Ballymoney and Dunmurry, in the civil parish of Shankill. The names derives from Suffolk House, built in 1824 by John McCance and demolished in the 1970s. The Suffolk Linen Mill operated on the east bank of the Collin River from the late 19th century to the late 20th century. The development of the area for housing dates from the 1960s. Suffolk is within the council area of Belfast.
