Sudbury, Middlesex
Sudbury is a former village that is now a suburban area that forms the western part of Wembley, Middlesex. The ancient manor of Sudbury stretched from Harrow on the Hill to what is now central Wembley. The Church of St John the Evangelist (1846), designed by Gilbert Scott, was commissioned by local philanthropists the Copland Sisters and lay at the south-eastern extent of Sudbury, just west of Sudbury station (opened 1845, now named 'Wembley Central'). The parish of Wembley was created in 1846 and from 1895-1965 was the basis for Wembley urban district, during which time Sudbury area saw large-scale suburban development. The area is within the council area of Brent.
