Studley Priory, Oxfordshire
Studley Priory is a former priory and 16th-century country house near Horton-cum-Studley, Oxfordshire. Studley Priory was a small house of Benedictine nuns founded some time before 1176. The priory was supressed in 1539 and its lands were sold to the Croke family, who built the house now known as Studley Priory in 1587. The house incorporates parts of the monastic range. It was used as a hotel from 1947-2004. It was a favourite hostelry of C.S. Lewis, who enjoyed a beer here after church. It is within the council area of Cherwell (Oxfordshire).
