Strood, Kent

Strood is a town in Kent. It is on the north-west bank of the River Medway at its lowest bridging point, with Rochester on the opposite bank. Strood's history has been dominated by the river, particularly its bridge since the Roman era to Rochester. In 1264 Simon de Montfort laid siege to Rochester Castle from the Strood Side. Strood has seen large-scale development and expansion in the 20th and 21st centuries. The town is within the council area of Medway.
