Stretford, Lancashire

Stretford is a market town in Lancashire. It lies on the plain between the River Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal. The town grew from a village in the late 19th century, especially with the arrival of the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894 and the subsequent development of the Trafford Park industrial estate. Stretford Public Hall was built in 1878 by John Rylands. Longford Cinema is an Art Deco building dating from 1936. The town is within the council area of Trafford.
