Strangford Castle, Down

Strangford Castle is a late-mediæval tower house in the village of Strangford, at the mouth of Strangford Lough, County Down. The tower house was possibly built in the later 15th century but was much altered in the late 16th century. The building is square in plan and comprises a basement and two floors with attics. The first floor fireplace has an oven and dry ‘keeping place’. There are window-seats on the first and second floors. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
