Strangford, Down
Strangford is a village, lying at the mouth of Strangford Lough in County Down. It is within the townland of Strangford Lower, in the civil parish of Ballyculter. Strangford has been a significant port since mediæval times. On the other side of the lough is Portaferry on the Ards Peninsula, a ferry service linking the villages. The village has a small harbour, which is overlooked by rows of 19th-century cottages and a fine Georgian terrace. The current Star of the Sea Church (RC) dates from 1932, on the site of a previous church built in 1820. The village is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
