Stonegarthside Hall, Cumberland
Stonegarthside Hall is a former 13th-century house in Cumberland. Now a country house dating from 1684, it is located high above the banks of the River Liddel about a mile from the Scottish border near Kershopefoot. At one time Stonegarthside was possibly a Pele stronghold, one of many that lined both sides of the Liddel Water, defining the border of England and Scotland in the 'Debatable Lands'. Built in the Scottish Baronial style, it has been described as ‘arguably the most remote country house in England’. It is within the council area of Cumberland.
