Stane Street is a Roman Road that linked London (Londinium) to Chichester (Noviomagus Reginorum) passing through Surrey and Sussex. The exact date of construction is uncertain, but it was in use by AD 70. Some of the route is followed by modern-day roads (A3, A24, A29 and A285), but much it now exists in the form of bridleways, tracks, footpaths, earthworks or crop marks. The section of Stane Street to the north of Billingshurst forms part of the modern-day A29. This section of Stane Street is within the council area of Horsham (West Sussex).
