St Piran's Oratory, Cornwall

St Piran's Oratory is an early Christian chapel comprising a small stone-built nave and chancel, located on Gear Sands at Perran Bay, Cornwall. The oratory chapel is thought to date from around the 7th century and remained in use until the 11th or 12th centuries. The association with St Piran is provided by the Domesday Book entry of a monastery at Lanpiran denoting an early Christian foundation, and by the place-name Perranzabuloe. The monument was buried by sand from its abandonment until the 19th century. It was then reburied from 1980-2014 for its own protection. The monument is within the council area of Cornwall.
Historic England Scheduled Monument 1018955.
