St Mary's Abbey, Glamorgan
St Mary's Abbey (aka Margam Abbey) is a former Cistercian monastery at Margam, Glamorgan. The abbey was founded in 1147 as a daughter house of Clairvaux by Robert, Earl of Gloucester. The abbey was dissolved in 1536 and sold to Sir Rice Mansel. In the 19th century his descendent, C R M Talbot, constructed Margam Castle which overlooks the abbey ruins. Most of the nave of the 12th-century abbey church survives and is now St Mary's Abbey parish church. The site is within the council area of Neath Port Talbot.
