St Katherine's, Middlesex

St Katherine's is a small area surrounding St Katherine Docks, lying to the east of the Tower of London in south-east Middlesex, part of the East End of London. The church and monastic hospital of St Katharine's by the Tower was established in 1147. It became the heart of the Precinct of St Katharine by the Tower, a small but densely populated area on the River Thames. The hospital and surrounding settlement was destroyed by the construction of St Katherine Docks from 1825. During the late 20th century, the docks were redeveloped as a business, leisure and residential area. The area is within the council area of Tower Tamlets.
