St John's Wood, Middlesex

St John's Wood is a metropolitan suburb in the north of Marylebone, Middlesex. The name dates from the 13th century when the land came into the possession of the Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. The area was developed by the Eyres family from the 1820s-1850s. The area includes Lord's Cricket Ground, home of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and Middlesex CCC and a major international cricket venue. It also includes Abbey Road Studios, known for its association with the Beatles. St John's Wood Church (1814) dates from the same period as the main St Marylebone Church and was also designed by Thomas Hardwick. The area is within the council area of Westminster.
