St John's Farmhouse, Cambridgeshire

St John's Farmhouse is a two-storey 16th-17th century brick and stone house in Ely, Cambridgeshire, in the Isle of Ely area of the county. The present farm known as St John’s is thought to occupy the site of the Hospital of St Mary Magdelene, first recorded in 1225. The site was primarily used as a mediæval hospital or charitable institution for the care of the sick and poor. The north front is now plastered and the south front has mediæval stonework. It is constructed largely of rubble and Barnack stone with limestone ashlar and clunch dressings. The house incorporates a mediæval timber frame. It is within the council area of East Cambridgeshire (Cambridgeshire).
