St Helens, Lancashire
St Helens is a large town in Lancashire. It became a major industrial centre from the 18th century. It remains a major centre of glass manufacture. St Helens Town Hall (1876) was designed in the Victorian style. The Gamble Institute (1896) services as the central library. The Friends' Meeting House dates from 1678. The Beechams Clock Tower (1887) is the former headquarters of Beecham's Pills. The town is within the council area of St Helens.
