St Davids Bishop's Palace (Welsh: Llys yr Esgob Tyddewi) is a ruined mediæval palace located adjacent to St Davids Cathedral in St Davids, Pembrokeshire. The monastic community was founded by Saint David, Abbot of Menevia, who died in 589. It became an important religious site, housing relics of the St David, patron saint of Wales. William the Conqueror visited as a pilgrim in 1081. In 1115, Henry I appointed Bishop Bernard as Bishop of St Davids. The first cathedral was consecrated in 1131. The present cathedral was constructed from 1181. The Bishop's Palace dates from the 13th and 14th centuries, with Bishop Henry de Gower (1328–47) being responsible for much of the work. The palace declined following the Reformation and was essentially in ruins by the end of the 17th century. The monument is in the care of Cadw. It is within the council area of Pembrokeshire.
