St Constantines Cells, Cumberland

St Constantines Cells (aka. Wetheral Safeguard) are cave dwellings in Cumberland. Argued to be as old as the time of the Romans as they are popularly considered to have been used by St Constantine when a hermit. They are also known to have been in use in the 14th century, probably for the Priory of Wetheral as a place of refuge during border raids. It is within the council area of Cumberland.
