St Albans Cathedral, Hertfordshire
St Albans Cathedral (formally the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban) is a Church of England cathedral in St Albans, Hertfordshire. It is the seat of the Bishop of St Albans. Although the location of an abbey since the 8th century, the present church dates from 1077-1088 when work was undertaken under the abbot Paul of Caen. The present building comprises Norman or Romanesque architecture of the 11th century, with Gothic and 19th-century additions. The cathedral contains the 14th-century marble shrine of St Alban. The cathedral is within the council area of St Albans (Hertfordshire).
