Springtown, Londonderry
Spring Town is an urban area in Londonderry, County Londonderry. It is within the townland of Spring Town, in the civil parish of Templemore. The Spring Town townland remained almost entirely rural until the Second World War when a US Navy base, Springtown Camp, was established in the eastern half of the townland, adjacent to Springtown House. Following the war, local people living in over-crowded terraced homes broke into the camp in August 1946 and squatted in the huts. The last residents were rehoused in 1967 and the area became the Springtown Industrial Estate. Springtown House (aka Jacksons House) was demolished in 1989. The western part of the townland was developed for housing from the 1980s, much of it forming the Foyle Springs estate. The area is within the council area of Derry City and Strabane.
