Spennymoor, Durham

Spennymoor is a town in County Durham. The town stands on what was once a expanse of moorland above the Wear Valley. The town grew around mining, starting with the sinking of the Wittered pit in 1839. The Durham Mining Museum is located in Spennymoor Town Hall. The town is within the council area of County Durham.
