Southorpe, Lincolnshire
Southorpe is a deserted mediæval village near Northorpe, Lincolnshire, in the Parts of Lindsey. It was first recorded under its present name in the 12th century. The population of Southorpe remained small throughout the mediæval period and finally declined during the 15th century with the conversion of arable to sheep pasture. The church remained standing until the early 16th century. The most recent buildings to occupy the site of the moated manor were demolished in the 1960s. The remains take the form of substantial earthworks, standing to a height of about 3ft. The site is within the council area of West Lindsey (Lincolnshire). Abandoned Village.
