South Petherton, Somerset

South Petherton is a large village in the south of Somerset. The village has its origins in the high status Saxon estate of 'Sudperetone', reputed to contain a minster and a royal palace. The Norman Church of St Peter and St Paul (C of E) is believed to occupy the site of the Saxon minster. Coke Memorial Methodist Church, designed by Alexander Lauder, was built in 1881-82. The village is within the council area of Somerset.
