South Lambeth, Surrey

South Lambeth is a former hamlet that is now an urban area in the metropolitan district of Lambeth, Surrey. In Saxon times South Lambeth was an extensive manor but it was split up following its acquisition by Edward I in 1293. In later centuries South Lambeth survived as a hamlet lying along what is now South Lambeth Road, to the south of Kennington. Following the urban growth of Lambeth in the 19th century, it became a district of the developing town. The area is within the council area of Lambeth.
