Snaresbrook, Essex
Snaresbrook is a former hamlet that is now an urban area in the north-west of Wanstead, Essex. Snaresbrook evolved in the late 17th century as a coaching halt on the road to Epping. Horses were changed at the Spread Eagle (now the Eagle), a pub in which local MP Sir Winston Churchill was a regular. The opening of Snaresbrook railway station in 1856 saw Snaresbrook develop into a suburb of Wanstead. Snaresbrook Crown Court, designed by Sir Gilbert Scott and William Bonython Moffatt, was opened in 1843 as the Wanstead Infant Orphan Asylum by King Leopold I of Belgium. The area is within the council area of Redbridge.
