Smerrill, Derbyshire

Smerrill Village is a deserted mediæval village near Middleton, Derbyshire. The monument survives as a series of well preserved earthworks. The history of the mediæval settlement appears unrecorded. The name of the adjacent farm, Smerrill Grange, suggests there may have been a monastic farm or grange here, but there is little historical information to support this. The site is within the council area of Derbyshire Dales (Derbyshire).
Historic England Scheduled Monument 1019044.
