Slough, Buckinghamshire

Slough is a town in Buckinghamshire. The first recorded uses of the name Slough occur as 'Slo' in 1196. It was a hamlet on the junction of the Great North Road and the road to Windsor. From the middle of the 17th century, stagecoaches began to pass through Slough and Salt Hill. The town grew through the 19th century, especially after the opening of Slough railway station in 1849. The establishment of the Slough Trading Estate in the 1920s led to spectacular growth. Many of the original villages of the area are now urban districts of Slough. The town is within the council area of Slough.
