Slindon Estate, Sussex

The Slindon Estate is a historic estate and country house at Slindon, Sussex. The original house on the site was a mediæval palace of the Archbishops of Canterbury. Only part of a tower remains of this. The house was rebuilt by Sir Garet Kempe about 1560. It was altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. Frederick Wootton Isaacson came to live at Slindon House in 1908. He largely rebuilt the house between 1914 and 1917. Upon his death in 1948 he left the house and the estate of 3,500 acres to the National Trust. It is within the council area of Arun (West Sussex).
