Sherborne Park, Gloucestershire
Sherborne Park is a historic estate and country house in Sherborne, Gloucestershire. The Dutton family owned Sherborne manor from about 1522. A U-shaped house was built in 1651–3 by Valentine Strong for John Dutton. The house was rebuilt in 1829–1834 for John Dutton, 2nd Baron Sherborne by Lewis Wyatt. The house, which reproduces the style of the 17th-century building, has a square plan with a central courtyard and a three-storey façade. Interior decoration of the principal rooms was by Anthony Salvin. The house was converted to flats in 1981 and the estate bequeathed to the National Trust in 1982. The gardens, pleasure ground and extensive parkland, begun in the 17th century have survived though much altered. A deerpark to the south-west, now known as Lodge Park, has a 17th-century grandstand. The estate is within the council area of Cotswold (Gloucestershire).
