Shankill, Armagh

Shankill is an urban area in Lurgan, County Armagh. It is within the townland of Shankill, in the civil parish of Shankill. Shankill cemetery began as a prehistoric double-ring fort, later the site of a small mediæval church. The church was taken down around 1718 when the new parish church at Lurgan Green was erected. The Brownlow family built their burial vault on the spot. Shankill townland became part of the urban area of Lurgan from the late 19th century. The area is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
