Shakespeare Farm, Buckinghamshire
Shakespeare Farm is a former Elizabethan coaching inn in Grendon Underwood, Buckinghamshire. The building is a beautifully restored, multi-period property with both Elizabethan and Jacobean origins, along with later Georgian additions. It was formerly known as the Ship Inn. It is named after William Shakespeare, who is said to have stayed there on his journeys between Stratford-upon-Avon and London. It is claimed Shakespeare may have drawn inspiration for 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' during his visits. The house is noted for its mix of Elizabethan, Jacobean, and later Georgian architectural styles. The property was extensively restored and operated as a high-end bed and breakfast called 'Shakespeare House' in the 2010s. In 2018, it was sold to a private owner. It is within the council area of Buckinghamshire.
