Seapatrick, Fermanagh

Seapatrick is a village, lying on the east bank of the River Bann on the northern outskirts of Banbridge, County Down. It is within the townland of Kilpike, in the civil parish of Seapatrick. A church is reputed to have been founded here by St Patrick when he stopped to water his horse on the River Bann. The present St Patrick's Church (C of I) dates from 1839. This replaced a church of 1698, the ruins of which stand in the graveyard nearby. A village developed around the church from the 1830s as the area by the river was developed for the linen industry. Seapatrick House was built by mill-owner Frederick William Hayes in 1834. Seapatrick Mill closed in 1962. Seapatrick House was demolished around that time. Seapatrick has since largely become a northern suburb of Banbridge. The area is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
